Shoreham Port teamed up with Consulting Civil and Structural Engineers, Hemsley Orrell Partnership (HOP) and other local organizations, including Edburton, and together put on an introductory programme called Practical Skills for Construction
which will help introduce people to the wonderful world of construction.
As part of the weeklong event, attendees visited Shoreham Port, met with the Engineering Department and were shown many of the exciting new projects that have taken place this year.
In addition to the two site visits to the Port, the group covered basic health and safety training, basic use of tools, site set up, working at heights, brick and blockwork, work planning and Civil Engineering.
Rhys Hutchings, Senior Engineering Manager at Shoreham Port commented “We have really enjoyed working with HOP and Edburton to deliver a hands-on experience to the group from Practical Skills in Construction. The Port is the perfect environment to showcase engineering practices on a number of levels and gave the students an insight into the day-to-day working life of an Engineer.----------
